Peace for our time
By Chamberlain 2010-07-12 22:24:42

Oostenrijk is dood. Leve Oostenrijk!
By een Weense kunstschilder 2010-06-20 21:37:11

Italian armies know their languages
By The Way 2010-04-11 17:34:08
Italy has educated its new armies the basics of the German and Hungarian languages. Although the Austrian government was flattered at first, officials soon realized that it was no gesture of good will, but a preparation for an upcoming invasion.

Italian diplomats claim the linguistic preparation of the Roman and Napolitan armies are nothing to worry about for Austria, but usefull when it comes to an attack of Northern France with Austrian support.

Austrian Emperor has green fingers?
By Citizen of Austria 2010-04-11 10:50:53
New information from the front confirms that the Austrian Emperor's main residence is now a lovely country house. He has probably been living there with his new love and all of a sudden he became acquainted with his new hobby: gardening. The once very rational and strategical industrialist is now more concerned with the type of lely, hortensia and olive trees growing in his garden. This also arises the question: will there also be babies in the near future?

Austrian Emperor retires!
By The Telegraph 2010-04-07 18:26:16
Rumours are that Austrian Emperor has found a new love in the princess of Poland and plans to retire from the battlefield. It is said that he is willing to give most of his conquests to the advancing Italian army and start a domestic live with his princess.

The Austrian Ministry of Propaganda denies accusations of unfair politics. The Emperor is, as they stated in a press release, 'a little busy lately, but his Secretary of Defence will give orders to the Generals in his absence'. The Ministry also claims that Austrian Diplomats have negotiated a new Principal Alliance with the Italians.

Website doet vreemd
By Gelukkig Portugees 2010-02-21 10:44:12

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

support to moving unit not given
By Gekke website 2010-02-21 09:50:49

Foei, gekke website!

Oke, volgens mij gebeurde hier iets niet helemaal volgens de regels: Italian army moves to Munchen supported by th Austria-Hungarian army in Silesia. Maar dat is toch self-dislodgement?? Wel grappig trouwens :) Munchen is mine again!!!

Short news

  • The Adriatic Alliance claims victory in the battle of Lapoleonville, which will be renamed Caesarea Nova.
  • The 31st of January will from now on be a special holiday in Austria and Italy, in honour of the Bosniak Suicide Command, which, with great courage and dignity, managed to send the 2nd Napolitan Fleet into the open waters of the Atlantic.
  • The Austrian Command calls for the citizens of Ieper to revolt against the French oppression. Austrian generals promise not to hurt the Belgians when they occupy the country.
  • Berlin, further to be referred to as `Franz Ferdinandburg', is incorporated in the Austrian Empire. Austrian officials are reported to believe that `it's very dishonorable to lose control over your capital', hereby referring to the Germans. The official language of Franz Ferdinandburg is changed to Hungarian.
  • The last Ottoman army has run out of supplies and is expected to disband very soon.

All of the stalemate lines have fallen
By world war correspondent 2010-01-31 09:46:15
It is in the autumn of 1904 that all the famous and feared stalemate lines have fallen. The Italian have managed to send a fleet to the Mid Atlantic ocean and Germany gifted Denmark to England. It is now predicted that Belgium will be reached by the Austria-Hungarian army as soon as 1914, with disastrous consequences for the citizen of the small village Ieper.

Marseilles #1 priority for Adriatic Alliance
By Independent Luxembourgian 2010-01-25 23:26:49
The Austrian-Italian-Hungarian High Command has made the capture of Marseilles their #1 priority. The generals are aware that an attack on French soil is risky and may result in the loss of earlier conquests, but Marseilles, recently renamed Lapoleonville, has become a prestige project for both the defending French command and the invading Adriatic Alliance.

An Italian naval officer is reported stating: `There are three options, and the total destruction of France is the only one.' For more information we refer to our editorial of November 3rd.

Marseilles the new Stalingrad
By French Patriot 2010-01-25 09:59:13
President Lapoleon has declared that the city of Marseilles must never fall into enemy hands. He has therefore decreed that every citizen young or old must take up arms and defend their city, no matter the cost, no matter even what remains of this glorious southern port. He declared that he will turn it into a new Stalingrad, a remark which confused many journalists since they have never before heard of this mythical city.

The presidents concluded his speech with the following statement:
"They make take our seas, they make take our Spanish possessions, but they will never take our home supply centres!"

Ugly dragon vs. quarreling pet
By International Diplomatic Magazine 2010-01-10 12:09:12
Although their history is not very friendly, the Germans and the French have now established an alliance. This two-headed quarreling pet now tries to defend itself against certain invasion. Spain, Marseilles, Kiel and Berlin are already within the attack range of the Austritalian dragon.

Meanwhile, the British War Machine stutters again, leading to a comeback of the Communists. England can now build only one new unit, which will be insufficient if it has to defend its home country. Russia also invaded Ankara with Italian help, so that Turkey now only holds Sevastopol and has to disband another unit.

Italian-Austrian Alliance finally shows itself
By Diplomacy Weekly 2010-01-10 10:27:39
Last campaign season has finally led to the revelation of the ugly Italian-Austrian alliance. This two headed dragon finally reared its ugly head by multiple attacks and supports all along their border. The final two powers in the world slightly capable of resisting, Germany and France, are now cursing themselves about all the previous infighting. The German heartland lies vulnerable and France's southern holdings are also threatened by Italaustrian aggression.

Alea iacta est
By Julius Caesar 2010-01-03 05:28:55

Franse koning schaakt Engelse prinses
By The Sun 2010-01-02 17:30:37

English officials make bureaucratic blunder
By the way 2009-12-27 12:36:41
Due to a bureaucratic error London did not recieve the supplies from Norway and Saint Petersburg with whom it was going to build a second army and a third fleet. The English officials did however send English supplies to the units in the field, so that those where supplied twice. The result is an undefended England. England's main ally, France, promised the other side of the Channel not to use this once in a gametime opportunity to pulverize the British.

Warsaw Conference Great Succes
By James Bond 2009-12-25 21:26:21
Unlike the meeting in Copenhagen, this meeting of leaders of state of the great European powers was a great success. Relations were improved and treaties were signed.

Diplomatic insiders speculate that this event will mark a turnover in foreign relations of participating countries and peace will soon reign once more over all of Europe. A spokesmen of the G4 as the countries are known said: "As soon as those troublemakers at the borders of the world are pacified peace will be restored." The spokesperson was soon fired for not thinking outside the box.

The diplomatic community looks forward towards next years conference in London.

Subterranean Homesick Blues
By Bob Dylan 2009-12-23 01:10:40
This winter, in a country far, far away. That's what some armies and fleets have to endure. Some severe cases of collective homesickness have been reported by doctors working at several units.

The English First Division 'The Beatles' from Liverpool, that was allowed to stay in England for last christmas, is now stationed in Saint Petersburg. Insiders told the Vakidioot that the troops are exhausted from the long tour through Norway and they miss their spouses back in England. The Russian winter is not a pretty prospect. Another downside of the distance to their home country are the increasing costs of the supply lines.

The Austrian-Hungarian fleet from Trieste has not been on Austrian soil since early 1901. After a campaign through Albania, Greece and Bulgaria, the fleet was chased to the Aegean Sea. The morale of the boarded soldiers falling dramatically, since the prospects for returning home in the near future are not very good. A sub-officer is reported saying: "If we're supposed to invade Turkey next spring, I predict mutiny."

The only other unit that has travelled as far as the former is the First Marseilles army that left for Spain in the spring of 1901. After a long stay on the other side of the Pyrenees, including a failed attempt to return to Gascony, they were succesfully convoyed around France to Belgium. Homesickness is less of a problem in this unit, since most Belgians speak French and the French border is near.

Other units that suffer from homesickness are the Napolitan fleet in Smyrna (although conquest cheers the morale) and the Constantinople army in Ukraine, that is entirely cut from its home country.

The opposite of marching around too much can also be a bad thing. The Moscow Army is reported to be bored. They haven't left the capital for two years, while Russia is attacked on all sides. Another three armies that have existed since spring 1901 haven't left home soil: the Parissian army that went to Picardie and set up parts of the Maginot Line, the Viennese army that took a holiday in Trieste and returned home ("The Italians backed out, so our work was done") and the other remaining Russian unit, that recently took Sevastopol from the Ottomans, while its home base Warsaw was invaded by Austria at the same time.

Europe: Total War
By Diplomatic Weekly 2009-12-20 12:06:06
It's gonna be a cold, cold christmas in Russia. Apparently, Lenin's neighbours are not that keen on his Communist ideas and yearlong absence from the battlefield. The Ottomans, who already attacked Sevastopol in the Spring, are succesfully forced to retreat to Armenia, but a new Turkish army is standing in Ukraine already. Meanwhile, Austrian armies marched into Warsaw by surprise.

In the North, England succeeded in letting the Soviet generals believe they needed support in keeping the Germans out of Sweden. When the red-flagged fleets arrived in Sweden, they found themselves surrounded by teadrinking* Prussians, and their home base Leningrad attacked by the Britons. The Bolshevik army now has to disband another unit, and forecasts are not very pretty. It is said that Leninart and his Komrads have already packed their bags to leave for Siberia.

Speaking about diplomatic failure, a classic three-way conflict is forming in the Balcans. Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire fought their first real battle, and Italy took advantage of the situation by invading Smyrna. Another attack on Greece failed for linguistic reasons. It is also unknown what the purposes of the Italian army in Tyrol were. Croatian armies of the Balcan Emperor believed they had scared the Italians to retreat to Venice and marched to Vienna. The Venetian army did not return home, neither as it attacked either Munich or Austria.

Finally, in the West a combined attack of English and French units on German Belgium succeeded. That the English let Germany invade Sweden at the same time can be seen as a succesfull divide-and-conquer policy, since it gained the Anglo-Saxons two builds. In the Southwest France and Italy follow the German-Austrian example of a country-wide demilitarized zone.

And while the European leaders prepare for Christmas meals and New Year's celebrations, the armies wait for warmer days and diplomats use their rethorics, for bilateral relations have been infected for short-term territorial gains everywhere.

Maginot Line Established
By Jane's Fortresses and Redoubts of the early 1900s 2009-12-20 09:50:31
After French military successes in Belgium the French and German armies rested for the winter. Meanwhile both sides started building huge fortifications to defend their borders. On the French side these consisted of a series of fortresses from the Alps to the Ardennes. Hard work of the French made certain that this defensive line was finished in time for the spring offensive. On the opposite side the Germans had by this time also constructed their own version of the Maginot line, the Siegfried line, named after the goldfish of kaiser Wilhelm Walter. As history would soon prove the war would become far too fluid for these massive barricades to have much effect except as a morale boost for the civilian population.

Measurement Problems Strike Again
By Système International d'Unités 2009-12-13 09:43:09
The French military High Command has been shamed today for failing their British allies in conquering Belgium. A spokesman from the French army describes what went wrong: "The English told us where they planned to attack from one space above Picardy, but we automatically assumed they were using strange British measurement systems and thought they meant 1.609344 areas above Picardy, which would describe York." This kind of chaos makes it once more abundantly clear why the entire world should use one system of measurements.

Purges in Sovjet Russia
By Komradski 2009-12-13 09:34:37
Sovjet leadership has begun a great purge of its officer corpse. Many officers who are believed to have been disloyal to the leader of the Sovjet Union Lennartin. The timing of the purge could not have come at a more catastrophic time for Sovjet military ambitions. Already assailed by many foes on all sides this lack of leadership by Sovjet High Command has led to a loss of the Sovjet's Black Sea port. Local Sovjet commanders scuttled the entire fleet to prevent it from falling in Turkish hands. An increasingly paranoid Lennartin had them executed days later for destroying Sovjet state property.

Russian Revolution
By Komradski 2009-12-09 20:25:46
As time passes, more information finds its way from Mother Russia to the rest of Europe. As it seems there has been a revolution last October, when the Bolsheviks took possession of the Winter Palace in Petrograd. As a result, the Russian army was fighting local battles and were not able to fulfill the orders of the Tzar to invade Rumania and Sweden. A few weeks later, most battalions even joined the Communist Soviet Councils that were set up all over the country. A new government under the leadership of Komrad Lenin tries to make peace to all its neighbors in order to have its hands free for internal reforms. It is not foreseen that a Civil Disorder like this one will be repeated, but the Russian Empire does remain somewhat disorderly.

American President assasinated!

American President William McKinley has been assasinated by Leon Czolgosz, an American anarchist of Polish descent. He will be succeeded by his Vice President, Theodore Roosevelt. McKinley can be added to the illustrous list of Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, John F. Kenndy and Barack Obama: American presidents that have been or will be assasinated.

`Speak softly and carry a big stick'
By Saint Paul 2009-11-26 12:12:38
American Vice President T. Roosevelt has held an already legen - wait for it - dary speech on the Minnesota State Fair last week. He spoke about international diplomatic and military strategy, where his idea is to negotiate peacefully and simultaneously threaten with military intervention. This idea was refelected the West African proverb he used: `Speak softly and carry a big stick'. This would be a strong corollary to the existing Monroe doctrine, which entitles the U.S. to put a halt to European intervention in the Americas. We should remember that if just re-elected American President William McKinley would be assasinated, Roosevelt will become the 26th President of the United States. And in the present political climate, that's not unthinkable.

War in Europe
By Our International Correspondent 2009-11-22 09:14:17
The armies of Europe are finally on the move and already relations are heating up to completely frozen. France is surrounded by enemies, with both England and Germany moving in breaking signed treaties. Only foresight by French military command has prevented loss of territory. Italy meanwhile attacked it's neighbour Austria, trying to capture another Mediterranean port. At last the black sea once more contains the wrecks of ships sunk during the fleet battle fought between Turkey and Russia. This correspondent asks himself: "Can anyone be trusted?"

Biological Warfare vs Germany
By the International Enquirer 2009-11-21 18:22:58
Rumors have reached us of the German war machine having been struck down by an epidemic. No one has yet been brave enough to verify the reports and the Germans appear to have locked themselves in, allegedly to prevent the spreading of this disease. It is also said that even Kaiser Wilhelm Walter has been struck down by this affliction. The abscence of their leader has hurt the morale of the German troops, but there is no doubt that this will be restored once their leader shows himself again.

Communications down
By our local correspondent 2009-11-19 23:58:06
Chaos throughout Europe. Communications are down and it is uncertain what has happened. The most recent information does not show any movement of military units, but it is very probable that they did, or are about to do so, as some reliable sources told this medium. Still the streets of Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Madrid, Belgrade, Sofia and Bucarest are empty. Another explanation for the (lack of) events is a sudden outbreak of world peace.

`Our troops will be home by Christmas'
By our reporter in the field 2009-11-17 01:56:46
Chanting and smiling are the soldiers marching through the fields, on their way to the fronts. Exaggarated optimism is present at all sides, and the British government is quoted to have said that `our troops will be home by Christmas'. It will probably not be as easy as that, since the forces of the seven major powers are predicted to be of similar strength. The only way forces will be home by Christmas is probably being disbanded by failure to be supplied. Christmas is only 5 turns in the future, and it is not expected that the war will be over by then, unless one of the powers invents military aircrafts.

Franz Ferdinand killed
By Österreichischer Rundfunk 2009-11-15 13:06:58
Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, was killed in a roundhouse related incident, when visiting Sarajevo in the Triëste province of Austria-Hungary. The offender is a Serbian nationalist and Chuck Norris fan. He was heard exclaiming Chuck Norris facts while he was overpowered by the national guards. Franz Ferdinands uncle, the current Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph, reacted on the news with anger. He claimed his armies would be taking Serbia to stop the growing interference of Serbian nationalists in the Bosnian region, and roundhouse kick all of those Serbian **** in their faces. Russian representatives have taken the side of their fellow Slavs by stressing that Serbia cannot be held responsible for its madmen. Germany is expected to take the side of their fellow Germanspeakers (although nobody can understand the gibberish German they speak in Austria), resulting in a conflict forming along ethnic lines. The other powers are expected not to stand aside when a major conflict breaks out. Official reactions from other leaders than the Austrian were however not known to this newspaper when it went to press.

The Art of War
By Sun Tzu 2009-11-14 16:55:08
The art of war is of vital importance to the State. It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected. The art of war, then, is governed by five constant factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations, when seeking to determine the conditions obtaining in the field. These are: (1) The Moral Law; (2) Heaven; (3) Earth; (4) The Commander; (5) Method and discipline. The Moral Law causes the people to be in complete accord with their ruler, so that they will follow him regardless of their lives, undismayed by any danger. Heaven signifies night and day, cold and heat, times and seasons. Earth comprises distances, great and small; danger and security; open ground and narrow passes; the chances of life and death. The Commander stands for the virtues of wisdom, sincerely, benevolence, courage and strictness. By method and discipline are to be understood the marshaling of the army in its proper subdivisions, the graduations of rank among the officers, the maintenance of roads by which supplies may reach the army, and the control of military expenditure. These five heads should be familiar to every general: he who knows them will be victorious; he who knows them not will fail. Therefore, in your deliberations, when seeking to determine the military conditions, let them be made the basis of a comparison, in this wise:-- (1) Which of the two sovereigns is imbued with the Moral law? (2) Which of the two generals has most ability? (3) With whom lie the advantages derived from Heaven and Earth? (4) On which side is discipline most rigorously enforced? (5) Which army is stronger? (6) On which side are officers and men more highly trained? (7) In which army is there the greater constancy both in reward and punishment? By means of these seven considerations I can forecast victory or defeat.

Eve of the war
By Jeff Wayne 2009-11-11 01:28:57
No one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of the A-Eskwadraat room. Armies are growing and war is inevitable. Turkey is set to reconquer its recent territorial losses in the Balkans, but Austria and Russia are also keen on influence in these areas. Italy is expected to conquer Carthage, and France may break the neutrality of the Iberian peninsula. The Benelux is probably prey to some of the Western powers, and Scandinavia may be divided amongst Germany, Russia and England. But nothing is certain. Countries may even attack each other. Territory may expand and be reduced over an over again. Alliances may be set and broken, backs may be stabbed. Rumors are that Kaiser Wilhelm Walter is set on getting revanche on Edward Victor Timmer and Franz Chuck Norris. Lapoleon Pétain XIV has found similar feelings from Il Duce Egbert and General Nicholas Pardon. But personal feelings won't influence continental politics, right? Or will they? And is this common history an advantage or disadvantage for newcomer Sultan Wolf Atatürk? The early 20th cenury will tell us. Alliances are set or about to be made on the division of all corners of Europe. It is said that detailed plans already exist on the total or partial extermination of a major power. As days go by, the war gets closer.

Franco-German Alliance lies in tatters
By Independent Luxembourgian 2009-11-03 00:25:56
Disagreement over the division of Alsace-Lorraine/Elsaß-Lotharingen has led the French and German leaders to suspend their alliance. It's the second territorial dispute since their joint victory in the Battle of Houten, the first being over Belgium. This time it seems much more serious though, since troops have been moved to Burgundy and the Ruhr Area to defend the respective interests. Whether the conflict is going to escalate is uncertain, the French and German leaders may resolve their differences and ally once again, as we've witnessed before. The Turks have spoken out their disappointment over the West European leaders' inability to solve their differences with diplomacy.
